Introducing Initia – The first platform to combine Layer 1 and Layer 2 technology

Introducing Initia - The first platform to combine Layer 1 and Layer 2 technology

Initia is a Layer-1 blockchain on Cosmos, seamlessly integrating with its proprietary tools, Minitias, and utilizing Optimistic Rollups. This powerful combination allows decentralized applications (Dapps) to evolve into Appchains under a Layer-2 model. The Initia platform provides comprehensive rollups that enable developers to create secure, fast, and easy modular blockchains using Celestia’s Data Availability (DA) infrastructure.

Through Initia’s architecture, developers can effortlessly launch application-specific blockchains as Initia Layer-2s without needing to understand complex chain-level infrastructure or manage validator sets.

The platform eliminates the UX complexities often associated with modular multi-chain interactions and offers a complete tech stack to create chain-level economic mechanisms that balance benefits among users, developers, Layer-2 Appchains, and Layer-1.

Initia’s Technological Solutions

Initia introduces Minitias, integrating a foundational Layer-1 with Layer-2 Appchains through the Initia rollup framework, ensuring seamless cross-module communication. This integration eliminates the fragmented experience of multichain systems by incorporating the entire tech stack. Minitias can directly send transaction data to Celestia, which is used by validators to determine chain states and verify state transitions.

Omnitia Shared Security (OSS)

The validator set that Initia uses is Omnitia Shared Security (OSS). This system integrates Celestia’s light nodes into validator nodes to verify data across all Minitias without downloading entire blocks. Additionally, stakeholders can use Celestia’s NMT design to download relevant transactions. OSS allows Initia to scale without altering the state of the Layer-1 validator set or requiring Minitia full nodes.

OPinit Stack

To ensure VM compatibility, Initia developed the VM-agnostic optimistic rollup framework called OPinit Stack. This framework allows developers to create applications compatible with various VMs, including EVM, WasmVM, and MoveVM.

OPinit Stack also supports fraud proofs and rollbacks, enabling CosmosSDK-based rollups in EVM, MoveVM, or WasmVM to scale securely using Celestia DA. With Celestia’s DAS and NMT solutions, Initia can integrate thousands of interwoven applications.

Key Features of Initia

Adopting a Modular Blockchain Model

  • Enhanced Execution Capabilities: Modular blockchain focuses on task segmentation and utilizes Layer 2 and Optimistic Rollups for transaction processing, reducing Layer 1 pressure and increasing throughput and efficiency.
  • Secure Data Availability through Sharding: Modular Blockchain employs sharding technology to scale while maintaining security and decentralization, reducing attack vectors, and enhancing system security.
  • Security and Decentralization: Typically using a Proof of Stake mechanism, modular blockchain increases network security and scalability. Proof of Stake attracts users through staking, creating a more decentralized model than Proof of Work.
  • Scalability: Modular blockchain reduces data processing complexity on blockchain applications. Layer 2 and Rollups minimize technical issues, facilitating ecosystem expansion.

Multi-VM Mechanism and Cosmos IBC Compatibility

Initia swiftly addresses the 7-day withdrawal period from Layer 2 to Layer 1 and ensures smart contract security with the Move programming language. Supporting EVM, WasmVM, and MoveVM, developers have multiple options for building applications.

Using Optimistic Rollups, Initia improves processing, reduces transaction costs, and ensures Layer 1 security. App-chains can be customized and linked, allowing developers to choose suitable features and consensus mechanisms.

Initia enhances user convenience and strong connectivity with blockchains like Ethereum Layer 2, Solana, Avalanche, and Fantom. Users interact with multiple Layer 2s without infrastructure or gas fee issues.

VM compatibility enables Minitias to flexibly use smart contract languages and customize through CosmosSDK modules, making Dapp development straightforward.

Initia’s Interwoven Rollups are flexible, product-ready rollups with features like:

  • Native USDC, Oracles
  • Fiat on-ramps, RWA
  • Decentralized sequencers
  • EVM & Cosmos wallet signing
  • DAO tooling
  • InitiaScan
  • Cross-chain bridging through IBC

Partnering with Noble and Kado, Initia provides full support for CCTP, equipping Minitias for seamless integration from external ecosystems and fiat onramps without additional trust assumptions.

DApps partnering with Initia can customize their economic models and user experiences as desired. This includes features like stablecoin development and multi-chain bridging, along with an innovative just-in-time gas fee model. Consequently, Initia simplifies the end-user experience when interacting with a modular multi-chain ecosystem.

Investors & Partners

Initia is backed by Binance Labs, receiving pre-seed funding in October 2023.

Recently, it raised $7.5 million in a seed round led by Delphi Venture and Hack VC, with participation from Big Brain, A_capital, Figment Capital, Nascent, and angel investors like Cobie, DCF God, and Zaheer.

Conclusion

Initia is a Layer-1 blockchain on Cosmos, leveraging its Minitias tools and Optimistic Rollups technology to support Dapps evolving into Layer-2 Appchains. It utilizes Celestia’s DA and Circle’s CCTP for asset compatibility, offering significant scalability potential for modular blockchain.

Backed by major investors like Binance Labs, Delphi, and Hack VC, Initia is poised for substantial future growth.
