How Does 0G Work?

0G’s architecture is built on two main components:

  1. The Data Storage Lane: This lane achieves horizontal scalability through well-designed data partitioning, allowing for large data transfers to be stored or accessed nearly instantaneously.
  2. The Data Publishing Lane: This lane guarantees data availability using a quorum-based system that assumes an “honest majority.” The quorum is randomly selected via Verifiable Random Function (VRF), avoiding data broadcasting bottlenecks and allowing space for larger data transfers in the Data Storage Lane.

0G Storage is 0G’s on-chain database, consisting of a network of Storage Nodes participating in a Proof of Work-like mining process known as Proof of Random Access (PoRA). PoRA requires miners to correctly answer random queries related to archived data, rewarding the corresponding Storage Node. This incentivizes network participation and improves scalability.

0G DA is 0G’s infinitely scalable Data Availability Layer built on top of 0G Storage. It uses a quorum-based architecture to provide data availability confirmation, with nodes agreeing on data availability under an “honest majority assumption.” VRF randomizes the quorum, while GPUs accelerate the erasure coding process needed for proper data storage.
