What is Casper Network?
The Casper Network is a Layer-1 Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain designed for real-world applications, emphasizing usability, decentralization, security, and scalability. Launched on March 31, 2021, by Casper Labs, this protocol is geared towards enterprise adoption, offering flexible privacy permissions, low latency, and robust security.
Casper enables enterprises to select between public, permissions-based, and private network configurations based on their confidentiality needs, without compromising on security or performance. This adaptability has attracted various enterprises and Web3 teams to collaborate with Casper.

Key Features of Casper Network
Capability to scale
Casper can handle a massive amount of transactions quickly and efficiently, making it ideal for applications that need high throughput.
Security
Using the proof-of-stake technique, Casper cryptocurrency ensures the integrity and security of transactions through the network.
Development-friendly
Casper provides tools and tools to make the process of developing blockchain applications, making it easier for many developers.
What makes Casper unique?
CBC-Casper Proof of Stake
CBC Casper is a family of PoS consensus protocols, which has various potential advantages and will possibly be adopted by ETH 2.0 in the future.
You can think of it as a blueprint for designing consensus protocols on pretty much any data structure you can imagine.
Enterprise Optimized
Businesses can choose to build private or permissions applications on the network. The network lowers technological obstacles, allowing more companies to incorporate blockchain technology into their business models.
Scalable
Another major benefit Casper provides users is scalability. Casper’s PoS architecture will enable sharding which provides networks with nearly unlimited storage capacity.
Future Proof
The Casper Network is also upgradable. Casper is developing a predictive gas futures market that would enable businesses to reserve gas ahead of time at predetermined costs, making it easier to plan for the future. In addition, WebAssembly support ensures non-crypto devs can onboard quickly.
Security first with minimal risk/easy to use
Casper is a fully permissionless/decentralized, scalable blockchain designed for real-world speed and security with very low and sustainable energy usage.
Casper integrates into existing development processes and toolsets, reducing friction and training time.
Staking Concepts on Casper
The Casper Network uses a Proof-of-Stake mechanism, allowing validators to stake CSPR tokens to maintain and secure the network. Validators earn CSPR rewards as blocks are validated and organized into eras.
Consensus mechanism
Casper operates using a PoS consensus mechanism under the Highway Protocol, a specification of CBC Casper.
Number of validators
Casper Mainnet supports up to 100 validators, balancing performance and decentralization. This limit can be increased through upgrades. Validators can join the Mainnet through permissionless bonding by participating in a validator slot auction.
Permission-less bonding
Validators compete in staking auctions to secure one of the top stakes for a given era. This process is permissionless, allowing validators to join or leave the auction without restrictions, except for a waiting period to unlock staked tokens.
Unbonding
It takes seven eras (approximately 14 hours) for validators and delegators to unbond from the network. During this period, neither receive rewards as they are not contributing to network security.
Eras and block times
An era on Casper is about 2 hours long. The Highway protocol allows validators to propose blocks as network conditions permit, with block times ranging from thirty seconds to eight minutes.
Block rewards
Rewards are proportional to stakes and decrease for delays in protocol participation. Validators and delegators receive rewards once per era.
Reward cycle
Rewards are distributed to validators and delegators once per era.
Token supply and inflation
At genesis, the Mainnet launched with ten billion CSPR. The target annual supply growth rate is 8%.
Annual reward percentage
Validators on the Casper Mainnet earn between 10% and 20% of their staked CSPR in the first year, depending on total active stakes and network conditions.
Conclusion
Casper Network offers secure and scalable staking opportunities optimized for enterprises. Validators stake CSPR tokens, engage in permissionless bonding, and earn rewards. Casper’s unique features include CBC-Casper PoS consensus, enterprise flexibility, and future-proof design. With support for up to 100 validators and rewards distributed in eras, Casper provides a robust platform for staking activities.
